Christmas 2008

We had a wonderful Christmas this year! We were busy, but it was fun visiting all of our family and especially seeing my sister, who came into town from Arizona. Ethan and her played the entire time she was here and they both loved it! We started the season off by heading to Jim's parents to open presents and spend Christmas with them. Ethan had a blast and loved his new play dough stuff, wagon, clothes, fort, and a car the lights up when you push the button. Thanks so much, we loved everything!! His dad' side always has a fun Christmas eve game that we enjoy playing. You bring a $10-$15 present to put in the middle of the circle and when your card is chosen you can either pick a new present from the middle or steal a present that someone else already opened. If it fun because you never know what you are going to end up with! This year.....I got my own gift which was a Starbucks gift certificate!!:) We traveled home that night to wake up in our own house Christmas morning. We did not want Ethan to miss what Santa brought him. He was a good boy this year and received a sled, a wagon full of mega blocks, and of course a stocking filled with goodies. It was fun to see him enjoy Christmas this year. Every time he opened a present he would say, "WOW!" it was so cute!
We then headed out Christmas morning to my mom's where we spent a day filled with lots of family and good food. Of course Ethan had a fun time enjoying some of his new presents from his grandma, Aunt, and Uncle. He loved his table and chairs that were just his size! He also loved running up and down grandma's stairs! He was on them every chance he got! It was funny because every barricade that we made, he managed to climb over or move out of the way, too smart for his own good! Thanks for everything! On Saturday we headed to Jim's grandparents and had a fun Christmas with that side of the family. There are lots of little kids that come to that Christmas so Ethan had fun chasing around his older cousins and doing whatever they did. If they laid down, he would lay down, if they ran into one room, he would follow. I even caught Ethan opening up presents that did not belong to him, so I did some re-wrapping! Silly boy! Thanks Great-grandma for the car, Ethan loves it! Then, on Sunday we headed to my dad's so that we could spend Christmas with him and my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. My dad made a yummy dinner that Jim and I got to enjoy while Ethan took a nap and then after he got up we opened presents. My sister and I got beautiful hand knitted blankets by our grandma! Ethan loved his wagon that grandpa got him and the book from his great-grandparents!! Thanks for everything, it was great seeing you guys! Then Ethan and I stayed until Tuesday morning when we took my sister back to the airport. Ethan started to act funny that day and to my surprise ended up with the flu and a terrible double ear infection, poor guy! Today (Saturday) he is starting to act like himself again. I finally took him to the Dr. once his fever reached 104 degrees and sure enough, his ear infection was causing the high temperature. We are just taking is easy and staying inside until he is feeling better.
We had a wonderful Christmas and hope that you all did as well! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Last night we went to the medmates playgroup Christmas Party and is was a lot of fun, until the scary man in the red suit and white beard appeared out of nowhere! As soon as Santa walked in all the kids were in awe, jumping up and down and we so excited, except for our little man, he started screaming right away! Santa even brought him a present, but he was not getting off his daddy's lap to get! He was going nowhere near that scary Santa!! Poor guy....maybe next year him and Santa will be better friends:) I promise you that we do not torture our son, Santa just happens to be at everything Christmas that we go to!!!Having a great time at the party with his friends Luke and Hailey. Here comes Santa!!All the kids in awe at the man in the red suit! Here in Ethan, crying and holding onto daddy for dear life!!

Belly Laughs!

The other night at dinner Ethan would laugh really hard for no reason and it was so hilarious!!! I think that it was grandma and Uncle Mark, but who knows, it was just really cute!:)

Ethan's new Friend

Ethan has a good friend here in Kalamazoo. Her name is Hailey and she is so adorable! Ethan and I get to play with her and her little sister Addison a couple times a month in the afternoon and we have a blast! They play so good together and always have a good time :) In fact, Ethan has met many friends here and enjoys playing with all of them!

SNOW!

Now that Ethan has a full set of winter gear, he loves playing outside in the snow! At first he found it hard to walk in his new boots, but now he is a pro. With a heavy blanket of snow on the ground today, we played for almost an hour and he enjoyed every second. He found a shovel and pail and found it entertaining to shovel snow, out it in the pail, dump out the snow and do it all over again! I just plopped myself in a chair and cheered his progress:) I think that I need a pair of snow pants if we are going to be outside for an hour in the cold! I unfortunately did not get any pictures today, but I did manage to get some the other day when we were out there. What can I say, he is just like his father and loves the outdoors in any kind of weather!
"Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" Peek-a-boo!

Ethan the Elephant!!

Ethan was an elephant for Halloween and had so much fun!! We only hit about five houses, but somehow acquired a lot of candy because he would take two or three pieces at each place we stopped! Both grandma's went trick-or-treating with us and it was nice to have them along. Grandpa and dad stayed behind to hand out candy and most of it was gone by the end of the night. Hope everyone had a happy Halloween! The best group shot we could get!Ethan with is grandma's trick-or-treating"Hmmm which ones should I take??"Aunt Keri also came to visit!!

Big Boy Bed

Ethan learned a few days ago how to climb out of his crib, so we took the crib down and put him in his big boy bed!!! Last night was his first night and let me tell you how it went. After his bath he was acting really tired and wanting to snuggle, so unlike him, so I thought that I would put him down. It was around 7:30pm and he went into this bed without a problem, stayed there, and was asleep in minutes!! I was so excited and happy that it was not a struggle. Then at about 10pm I went into check on him before bed and right away I recognized the smell of vomit, yup he threw up all over himself and his bed, ahhhhhh now what do I do??? He is sleeping so soundly in his puke and I could not let that continue all night. So I woke him up, changed his sheets and then layed with him until he fell asleep, which took an hour, then I snuck out. He woke right back up and we just kept bringing him back to bed without saying anything or making eye contact and after the second time of getting out of bed, he stayed there all night and even slept in!!!! Whoo hoo!! Nap time today went well too, even though he is sleeping at the wrong end of the bed:) We are very proud of our big boy!!!

"bu-bu" translation: "bunk bed"

The "bu-bu" will soon be Ethan's new digs as soon as dad can modify it so Ethan can't climb up it in the middle of the night or fall out when he rolls around in his sleep.

I knew this day would come.....

I have been waiting for months and today it finally happened....

It was Ethan's nap time and I do the same routine every afternoon before nap. Today I think that he was over-tired when nap time came. I put him in his crib awake and shut the door behind me. He usually talks himself to sleep, which is nothing new. Then all of a sudden, he starting crying yelling "uh-oh" over and over. I gave it a few minutes and then it became louder so I decided to go in and check things out. As I was walking in, I noticed his bear on the floor, which he is attached to, and him crawling down the side of his crib. Before I knew it, his feet had hit the floor. He climbed out of his crib and he was not going back in if he had anything to say about it. Hmm I thought, how am I going to make him stay in his crib?? After three attempts and his successfully escaping, I did the only thing I could think of...hold him down. After an hour after he was suppose to be asleep, I had succeeded!! Then I silently left the room, sat on the couch. A minute later the dryer buzzer went off and guess who started screaming??? Neadless to say I have a very tired toddler!!

Ahhh the joys of motherhood!!!! :)

Gull Meadow Farms

On Saturday we took a family trip to Gull Meadow Farms with the rest of the residents and their families. We had a great time and Ethan just had a blast! He has been noticing all the "balls" (pumpkins) in our neighborhood and at the store and was in his glory when he could play in the pumpkin patch!:) There was lots of activities for children of all ages and of course home made doughnuts, cider, and apples.

Isn't the middle pumpkin the cutest!?!

Uncle Mark came too!

A pumpkin just Ethan's size.

Playing in the hay watching the train go by. (He was too scared to ride the train).

First time down the slide with daddy, the next hundred were by himself laughing the entire time! (But he wouldn't ride the train???)
